Windows XP Service Pack 3 Update Delayed

I guess having SP3 available to a limited but large audience helped Microsoft flush out a few more bugs before its official release.

While Service Pack 3 was due to be deployed today, Microsoft decided to wait until they could block some systems they don’t want updated. They’re not making any changes to SP3, they’re just going to block those system which they’ve determined are incompatible.

No Dynamic Retail Management System

Specifically, if you’re running “Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS)” you shouldn’t upgrade to Service Pack 3. Microsoft also acknowledged problems with Vista Service Pack 1 and Dynamics Retail Management Systems.

If you’re one of those people who have already found and installed XP SP3 or Vista SP1, you don’t need to worry unless your system is using the Dynamics Retail Management System. If you plan on upgrading using Windows Update or the Microsoft Download Center no date has been given for public release.

Again, no fixes or changes are being made to Service Pack 3. The changes will be made to the Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center so that incompatible systems can be blocked.

Dear Bill,
I see Microsoft released
XPSP3 update on Tuesday. Have there
been any reported problems with the
update? A question I ask of you, to date I have not updated my IE6 to IE7 would that interfere in any way or automatically update if I update to XPSP3?
A while back you stated
IE6 is fine to use and IE7 would slow things up. Is this still true or am I wrong? Either way I'll be waiting a few weeks or so before I think of updating to XPSP3 as you suggested.
Can you state your view on IE6 vs. IE7 now?

So far so good but it's only been a couple days.

As far as IE goes you might want to read the Security Garden.

Dear Bill,
Thank you. I read the article in Security Garden. I understand what needs to be done if you change your mind after SP3 is installed with IE7. It sounds like you can always update to IE7 afterwards while you test drive
SP3 on IE6.
I value your opinion on your take on the differences between IE6 + IE7. Do you consider it a better choice to use or does it slow down your ability to work faster. I guess i'm trying to understand if its a good move to update to IE7?

Thanks again,
