IE7 Usage at 11.7%

Yesterday I posted a recommendation that you don’t upgrade to Internet Explorer 7. It wasn’t in time for most of the early adopters who visit here. Chances are most of you are curious and will upgrade anyway. Wink

As of yesterday, 11.7% of the folks who came to Bits for Bill had upgraded to Internet Explorer 7. That’s a pretty significant number considering the product was just released and hasn’t been part of an automatic upgrade yet.

Browser Usage Statistics on browser usage on Bits from Bill

Obviously, these numbers aren’t a scientific indication of the whole market but I’ll keep an eye on the numbers over the weeks ahead and let you know what I see.

Update 11/11: The initial rush to upgrade seems to be settling down.

Hi Bill my stats at the moment are as follows:

50.2% - IE 6
6.5% - IE 7
27.4 - Firefox 1.5.0.7
2.6% - Firefox 2.0

So the majority are still sticking with IE 6 so far. Like you I will be monitering this over the coming days and weeks maybe.

Total hits count upto 162,000 for this month.

Thanks Andy,
I'm a little surprised that we're off by that much but not surprised you have more Firefox users. I'm expecting the Firefox 2 numbers to go up.

The stats I'm posting are for just the last 24 hours and my user base is probably much smaller than yours. A quarter of my readers are probably feeds that don't show up in my stats.

I also downloads a little program called IE7 Tools which allows me to make the browser report it's IE6 so my own usage won't affect the numbers. ;)

Keep me updated!

You wanted to keep you updated. Then have a look at my blog. The first article.

I don't go into great detail. But it does show the stability in users upgrading to IE 7 and more users switching to FF 2.

IE 7.0 - 12.6 %

IE 6.0 - 46.6 %
